THE SHOP RAT FOUNDATION TO RELEASE MOBILE APP FOCUSED ON CAREER EXPLORATION

The mobile application will enhance student understanding of careers focused on the manufacturing industry and professional trades
Friday, February 14, 2020 Jackson, Michigan – On February 26,, 2020 the Shop Rat Foundation, a Jackson based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization will release On the Job 360, a mobile application that utilizes 360° video and first-person video to showcase careers within the manufacturing industry and professional trades, as well as take app users on virtual tours of advanced manufacturing facilities and job sites, with the 360° videos within the app fully VR compatible, to provide an immersive experience. The app is a free download available through the Apple App Store for iPhone, as well as the Google Play Store for Google smartphones.
The intended application of the mobile app is to serve as a platform for youth and parents to gain a better understanding of career opportunities within the manufacturing and professional trades industries in an immersive and highly accessible manner. Immediately, the app will be utilized within the Shop Rat Education Program extra-curricular classes and camps, serving grades 6-12. Shop Rat Foundation board chair and President of Peak Manufacturing states “as both a manufacturer and chairperson of the board, I’m excited to provide this resource for youth and that something to take the mystery out of modern manufacturing looks like will be readily available.”
The app has been developed by the Shop Rat Foundation, with the assistance of the Agile Growth Shop, housed at the Lean Rocket Lab, in Jackson, Michigan. Development of this resource has been generously funded through a Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation B.E.S.T. grant, as well as a grant made by the Hurst Foundation.
On the Job 360 will be a continuously evolving resource, with availability remaining for interested companies to be included in virtual tours and career spotlight videos.A formal launch event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 4:30 PM at the Lean Rocket Lab in Jackson, Michigan.
About The Shop Rat Foundation-Founded by manufacturing entrepreneur, Chris Salow in 2004, the Shop Rat Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ignite interest in manufacturing careers and professional trades through innovation and outreach. The primary function of the Shop Rat Foundation is facilitation of the Shop Rat Education Program, comprised of extra-curricular programming and school outreach activities focused around construction trades, engineering, precision machining and welding. The Shop Rat Education Program serves approximately 3,000 youth enrolled in grades 6-12 annually.
