posted on August 3rd, 2009
The Shop Rat Foundation, with support of the SME Education Foundation, rolled out its first annual Shop Rat Summer Camp.
This week long day camp was held at the Jackson Area Career Center within the machining and auto body lab rooms.
Over 40 students from various public, private and home schools participated in this free camp building and tinkering with a variety of projects.
Projects included, Wheelie Cars, both the old style and the 'suped-up' model, full size water balloon launchers and cannons, wind turbines, solar power experiments, tearing apart old bikes to create crazy and unique bicycles, mini-bike, go-kart, and other various projects.
This camp allowed us to provide an opportunity to all students that were on our waiting list. We were able to recruit all new students for this camp! Several past students also participated as team leaders.
